the book
SOMNIUM 3: EAT THE COPY! is an account of Eric Lunde’s experience through
high-grade covid infection that landed him in the ICU for the first week of
December of 2023:
THE
THIRD INSTALLMENT IN THE SOMNIUM ™ SERIES, SERIES 3 FOLLOWS THE SOMNIUM
TEMPLATE OF 137 EPISODES OF 137 WORDS (THINK PHYSICS NOT PSYCHICS....THE
SIGNIFICANCE BEING THAT IN PHYSICS 137 WAS ONCE BELIEVED TO BE THE EXACT VALUE
OF THE FINE-STRUCTURE CONSTANT, A NUMBER WHICH, ACCORDING TO LEON LEDERMAN,
"SHOWS UP NAKED ALL OVER THE PLACE.”). THE SERIES FOLLOWS THE AUTHORS
ADVENTURES IN COVID-INDUCED HALLUCINATIONS UNTIL ARRIVING AT THE OBVIOUS
CONCLUSION: WE ARE THE VIRUS! WE ARE ALL COPIES OF THE VIRUS! EAT THE COPY!
it is a
poetic rendering of the experience, hallucinatory and ultimately enlightening
for Mr. Lunde:

from
the hallucinationnnnsss of someone filming me of holding me hostage and filming
and releasing it to a film festival I didn’t go to and seeing things in the
dark written in fading pen nightly palimpsests construction behind the scenes
like stagecraft moving scrims and backgrounds and yeah it was oddly
illlllluminating even libbberating but see I blame all of you….so………”

I’ve been observing and consuming
Lunde’s work for most of my life at this point, and as such am habitually aware
when I see things in the everyday world that are reminiscent of his methods of
reduplicative degeneration. For this project, though, I was invited to
participate as a copy — to employ a set of Lunde’s methods and to
interpret his instructions to create something that inevitably would feel like
one of his works. Ultimately, though, the process revealed something to me that
no one else other than the practitioner can fully appreciate — that here are
secrets buried in this method, and in the piece that results. Its truth is
distorted. But when is the truth not distorted? Ergo, doesn’t that mean that
this version of the truth is, in fact, all the more true? I recommend finding
out for yourself: Eat the copy. — Karl J. Palouček, 5.16.24
